Irwin Cotler – The Retreat of Democracies: Through the Lens of Political Prisoners

Few have done as much to right the world’s wrongs as Irwin Cotler. As an international human rights lawyer, Irwin counselled political prisoners and activists, including anti-apartheid revolutionary Nelson Mandela and Soviet refusenik Natan Sharansky. He served the Canadian people as Member of Parliament for Mount Royal, and as the federal Minister of Justice and Attorney General.

Today he’s still active as the International Chair of the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights and as an Emeritus Professor of Law at McGill University. An engaging speaker with a front-line perspective, here we take you back to when Irwin spoke at ideacity’s 20th anniversary conference about “The Retreat of Democracies”.
