Welcome to our ranks, Comrade General Rodriguez Bucio! The government is celebrating that from his position as head of the National Guard, the General’s presence will be of the utmost importance in the President’s effort not to feel alone. The control over arms will serve to eternalize the transformation effort undertaken by the 4T. And also to show those who oppose the President’s heroic deed that their actions will face the resolute and determined wall of the National Guard ranks.
Irony aside, General Luis Rodríguez Bucio participated in an event convened by the Secretary of the Interior, Adan Augusto López, where also present was the Undersecretary of Public Security on leave (that’s a saying) Ricardo Mejía, who announced his interest in participating in the gubernatorial elections in Coahuila as a Morena candidate. Applause resounded in every corner of the hall where the event was held.
The gubernatorial election will be held in Coahuila in June, but 2023!
The photograph of the partisan event, headed by the head of the National Guard, the Secretary of the Interior, and the federal Undersecretary of Public Security, shows a plethora of illegal conduct by the three federal officials.
First, the three federal officials participated in a Morena meeting where the recall vote was promoted. The Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation already declared illegal the participation of public officials in the promotion of the vote at the event. Cynically and in violation of his constitutional oath, the Secretary of the Interior said, mockingly, “what difference does it make if those (the INE Board Members) are already leaving”. He gave himself license to violate the law. An absolute abuse of authority, especially by those who should be the guarantors of applying the rule of law in Mexico.
The “comrade” General of the National Guard violates the law by violating the non-intervention of active security and militarized forces in the country’s political life principle. With his intervention in a partisan event, the military institution he represents loses credibility as a guarantor of social peace and law enforcement. And even less in the promotion of the positions of a party, including the official one. In a world where legality prevails, the General would have been immediately dismissed, or, with greater dignity, he would have resigned his post. But, well, we are in a historical moment where abuse of power by the authorities abounds.
After learning about the intervention of military authorities in the disappearance of their 43 children from Ayotzinapa, their relatives said, “…the powerful have played with our hopes; they have lied to us without contemplation, looking us in the eyes…The size of a lie is measured by the length of the explanation and the width of the excuse.” This comment goes directly to Comrade General and his henchmen in the security forces, the Republic’s President, and his followers.
The Secretary of the Interior promoted the recall vote and the Undersecretary his candidacy. All in violation of the law. But the most remarkable thing: they did it, knowing that they were violating the Constitution and the laws that emanate from it.
This photographic scenario speaks of illegality. But the new and highly worrisome ingredient is the presence of General Bucio in the equation. This brings us to another, even more, serious problem. It suggests the willingness of the 4T government to prioritize the intervention of the military to solve political issues while neglecting the rampant insecurity in the country. It speaks of the government’s willingness to promote militarization in Mexico as an instrument to forcefully impose its vision on a society that does not accept the 4T.
It speaks of an accelerated race towards authoritarianism where breaking the law can be normalized with indiscriminate use of force.
