Xi’s Military Parade, A Show Of Force.

The parade on Wednesday to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, attended by Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un among other leaders, featured a concentrated appearance of China’s land, sea, and air-based strategic nuclear capabilities, a significant milestone in the nation’s military modernization. Among the highlights was the JL-1 air-launched long-range missile, underscoring China’s capacity for aerial nuclear deterrence.

Complementing this was the JL-3 submarine-launched intercontinental missile, signaling a robust and survivable sea-based second-strike capability. Finally, the DF-61 and DF-31BJ land-based intercontinental missiles were prominently displayed, representing the cornerstone of China’s land-based nuclear arsenal and its ability to reach distant targets. This comprehensive exhibition solidified China’s position as a major nuclear power with a diversified and increasingly sophisticated deterrent.
