Ofra Harnoy, Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major

Harriet Krijgh conducting The Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra  – Live Classical Music Concert HD on November 20, 2020.

Ofra Harnoy is not only one of the greatest cellists on the world’s concert stage, she is a Member of the Order of Canada, has recorded more than 40 solo albums, and was named by Maclean’s as one of 12 Canadians “who bring most credit to their country”.

On our stage, Ofra challenges our musical ears by playing two cellos, created nearly 300 years apart, and looking to see if we can discern which is the 300-year-old multi-million dollar instrument.

Catch her ideacity performance here, then make sure to tune into Masterworks 2: Mellow Cello, presented by The Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and featuring Ofra, on Friday, November 20 at 6 pm EST. Ofra is set to perform Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major, paired with Mendelssohn’s Overture for Winds and Brahms’ Serenade No. 2, op. 16, while Marc David conducts. Ofra is also rumoured to be playing a Newfoundland folk song performed from her new album, On the Rock.
