Turning Natural Gas into LNG

As global demand for natural gas grows, companies use advanced technology to transport it from source to customer. Gas can be piped over relatively short distances. But cooling the gas to -162°C (-260°F) makes it a liquid for easier, safe shipment to faraway markets overseas.

Shell provided the natural gas for the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) project more than 50 years ago. Today the world’s largest provider of LNG, Shell continues to develop innovative approaches to unlock new natural gas resources. For example, in North-West Australia, Shell is working with partners to build a giant floating production and liquefaction facility at sea, Prelude FLNG.
